Affiliated to NODA The best of G&S in the South

 Main Show

Our main show for 2016 was

The Mikado

Our Director was again
Claire Camble-Hutchins

who has now created 3 brilliant shows for us - Pirates of Penzance in 2014, Ruddigore in 2015 and now The Mikado.

The music was once again under the control of our own Musical Director, Kezziah Jacombs who has done so much to maintain the high standards of our Society. Unfortunately 2016 was her last year as our MD, and we wish her well for the future.

Probably the best known and loved of the G&S operas and the one that gave us the much used saying "make the punishment fit the crime“! Featuring some of Gilbert and Sullivan's best known songs, including Three Little Maids, I've got a Little List, Tit Willow, Let the Punishment Fit the Crime, and many more.

If you came along we do hope you enjoyed the show - thank you for supporting us.  If you would like to send us any comments you have, we are always delighted to receive them - please click the button below.

Some of the many comments and emails that we have received:

“I had a most wonderful evening at the Lighthouse Theatre last night, Saturday. Your production of the Mikado was lively, very colourful and exciting. I tried to limit my movements or involvement and felt I had succeeded not to have spoiled things for those sitting behind me! It was quite difficult!”

“As a long-time supporter of your fantastic company, your Mikado is an all-time best. Brilliant!”

“What a show! My 12 year old grandson loved every minute too.”

“Absolutely bril...I...iant!  A great production - you should all be very proud of yourselves. Thoroughly enjoyable.”

“I had the pleasure of seeing the production in Poole last night and thought it was terrific. Congratulations to all the cast. Good luck for the rest of the week. I am looking forward to the Gondoliers next year!”

“We have seen about 6 of your presentations and to us this was by far the best.”

“All I can say is "Wow!" The best yet! Two hours of toe-tapping, head nodding and humming (very quietly) made our evening.”

“Brilliant! We hugely enjoyed the show.  Well done as always.”

"We thoroughly enjoyed the show last night - the best one we have seen."

“That was fabulous! I have always enjoyed G&S but I think last night's show was the best I have ever had the pleasure of watching.  Well done.”

“To be honest, I didn't think I would take to G&S, but I have to ask, which one is next and when?”

We premiered this ever popular production at the International G&S Festival in Harrogate where we played to a very appreciative audience.

We also received nominations for best costume and 2 of our principals received nominations too.

The reviews were great and you can read them here:

The Gondoliers is full of fun and wonderful music.  It centres around two Venetian gondoliers who have just got married when they are told that one of them is actually the King of a small island kingdom of Barataria, but which one is not very clear!  The Duke and Duchess of Plaza Toro from Spain are also looking for this ‘king’ because their daughter Casilda was betrothed to him when they were children, before he was smuggled away to live in Venice! She is, of course, in love with someone else.  The tangled web is all sorted out in the end.

The production will be directed once again by Claire Camble-Hutchins who has brought such wonderful sparkle to our last 3 years’ shows and the music is under the very capable direction of Helen Brind who has joined us for the first time, but whose pedigree is extensive.

We do hope you will be able to come along.
