 Gala Concert

What a fantastic concert!

With the hugely talented Simon Butteriss guiding and singing us through the loves, tangled plots and topsy-turveydom of G&S, joined by 5 other wonderful professionals, all backed by a chorus of nearly 100 formed from many Operatic Societies from Exeter to Portsmouth, the evening had the right mix for something special.  Add in a full 27 piece orchestra conducted by Jean Holt who, until last year, had been our Musical Director for 22 years and the concert really was electric.

Read the SceneOne review here and you will see what the 700 strong audience felt about it and read some of the very many emails we have received here!

Our other professional soloists were Louise Crane, Ian Belsey, Rebecca Bottone, and ex D'Oyly Carte Opera Company members Ros Griffiths and John Broad who are patrons of the Bournemouth G&S Society.

All profits from the concert will go to the support of
Macmillan Caring Locally
our local Macmillan Cancer Trust at Christchurch.

If you came along to the concert, we do hope you enjoyed it.

Press Review

Here are some of the very many emails we have received from those who came to the concert:

“Just had to let you all know how fabulous last night's concert was!

I felt really proud of you all and you all looked lovely.  I thought our ensembles excelled themselves and the general air of enjoyment amongst you all was so lovely to see.”

“Just want to say how much I enjoyed the Concert last night - a massive 'Well Done' to you all.”

“Congratulations on last night's performance! We thoroughly enjoyed it.”

“From the moment we arrived at the Lighthouse, the audience in the bar was buzzing with anticipation . . . and we were not disappointed with the marvellous concert.”

And from the professional soloists who were simply superb:

Simon Butteriss - Thank you so much for looking after me so well on Saturday - I enjoyed myself enormously and was hugely impressed by the musical standards and enthusiasm of the chorus you'd amassed, not to mention the input of the orchestra and all the guest soloists.   I very much enjoyed meeting many of them at the tea.

Becky Bottone - Thank you for your email and also a big thank you for looking after me and my family so well for the concert.  I loved meeting you and being involved in the concert, it was a very uplifting occasion.

Louise Crane - Thank you for last night. It was a great gig, and much helped by tea, sandwiches, cake, water, fruit, flowers, safety pins, scissors, parking, etc. Not every society thinks of those extra touches.

Ian Belsey - Thank you so much for all your help and the fabulous running of the show, including the lovely tea! What a smashing bunch you all are! Would that all gigs could be like that!

During the afternoon’s rehearsals in the concert hall.  The 4 professional soloists are on the left and the chorus raised up behind the orchestra.
