The AGM

Thank you to all members who came to the AGM. There was an excellent turnout and a lot of things to discuss!

Our Chairman Tony Broomfield stood down after 5 years and received sincere thanks and praise for all that he had done for the Society during that time.  His successor is Neil Winkley who was warmly welcomed by the meeting.

Cherrill Ashford and Cathy Murray were voted on to the committee to serve for 3 years and Jantina Mulder was elected as the Vice Chairman for the year.

A summary of other matters is as follows:

Brian Ford was elected as a Life Member for his long standing service to the Society, particularly over 20 years as Stage Manager.

The Edna Tice award was won by Pat Baker and the Dot Westgate award was won by Trevor Smith.

Our new Director for The Sorcerer is Alan Spencer who directs a number of Societies and also many of the professional productions at the Buxton Festival.  He has a very good reputation and knows G&S well.

The opera voted by the meeting for 2009 will be a combination of HMS Pinafore and Trial By Jury.

EXTRAORDINARY GENERAL MEETING (EGM)

Thank you to all those that attended the EGM on Wed 25th June.  After plenty of discussion the following was voted and agreed:

1.  That the plan to put on The Pirates of Penzance as a schools production was supported.

2.  However the proposal to use the money voted at the AGM to go to charity this year to support the Pirates venture was not agreed and it was voted that the charities nominated at the AGM should receive that money as proposed and that Pirates should be financed from other sources.
